The Two Kinds of Knowledge

E. W. Kenyon wrote a small book called “The Two Kinds of Knowledge”. In the book he talks about “sense knowledge” and “revelation knowledge”.

Sense knowledge is the knowledge that we attain through the five physical senses. This includes all the scientific and technical knowledge that mankind has been able to acquire. He admits that sense knowledge has given us a lot, but that it has limitations. “Sense knowledge can see the handiwork of God, can see the design in creation, but it cannot find the designer. It is often unwilling to admit that there is a designer because it cannot find him. ”

Revelation knowledge is the knowledge that is imparted to us by the Holy Spirit speaking to us as we read the scriptures. God is a spirit and there is a spirit in humans as well. That is where revelation knowledge is born.

I remember the first time the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to a understand deep within me the meaning of a passage of scripture.

Jesus said in Luke 14:35 “Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.” When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”” We cannot hear without having the Holy Spirit open our minds to receive the meaning that God is trying to impart to us.”

In Ephesians 1:18 Paul said, “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people”. The heart is the spirit within us.

As we read and study scripture, we should pray that the Holy Spirit open the eyes of our understanding and speak to us in our spirits.
